About SACH
SACH History

SACH was established in the early eighties by a group of health professionals who were concerned about the future of Scotland’s Community Hospitals. At the time, many Community Hospitals were under threat of closure and SACH supported these hospitals as they fought to prove not only that they were viable and should remain open but that they should be the setting for the further development of Primary Care.

Having won this battle, SACH then turned its attention to supporting the future development of Community Hospitals and promoting their ability to provide patient-centred, local care to communities – an ability which is now being fully recognised by the NHS and the Scottish Executive.
