12th October 2009

Dr Kevin Woods, Director General Health and Chief Executive, NHS Scotland, is the latest addition to the 2009 SACH Symposium programme. Dr Woods, who is presenting at the Symposium on the afternoon of Friday, October 30, will be providing an overview of progress within NHS Scotland.

"The programme for the 2009 SACH Symposium is one of the best in years," said Frances Smith, Director of the SACH, who added that, as well as Kevin Woods, many other representatives of the Scottish Government who are highly influential in Scotland's healthcare will be presenting at the Symposium, including Derek Feeley, Director Healthcare Policy & Strategy; Brian Slater, Policy Manager; Stephen Gallagher, Interim Deputy Director, Health Delivery and Head of Improvement and Support; and Susan Bishop, National Programme Manager of the LTCC Collaborative.

In addition, the guest speaker on the morning of Saturday, October 31 will be David Piggot, Interim Chief Executive of NHS Orkney.

The Symposium will also feature a session on telehealth by experts from all aspects of this emerging field, a presentation on whole team, whole system pathways by Dr Anne Hendry, Consultant Geriatrician/National Clinical Lead LTCC/JIT Associate, and a presentation on the Scottish multi-professional maternity development programme by Helen Marshall, who will also be leading a clinical session on managing post-partum haemorrhage in a community hospital setting.

And, as if that's not enough, Dr Andrew Buist of the BMA will be discussing the GP Contract, Dr Hamish McBride will be sharing his unique view of the world of medicine (and possibly much more!) and there will be a series of short and snappy presentations looking at developments and innovations in Scotland's Community Hospitals.

The Symposium takes place on October 30/31 at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld and places are still available, both for day delegates and delegates who wish to stay overnight and attend both days of the Symposium.
