New Developments for Community Hospitals
4th October 2008

Professor Lewis Ritchie, one of the founding members of the Scottish Association of Community Hospitals, is interested in discovering what other members of the SACH think have been the major developments in Community Hospitals over the last ten years.

"What have your Community Hospital highlights been since 1998?" Professor Ritchie asked. "Whether it was a new unit opening or a new model of care service being developed or a particular strategy or framework - what really made a difference to you?"

Lewis' own list of Community Hospitals highlights, both for his local Community Hospital and nationally, includes:
1. Development of satellite dialysis facilities - Peterhead
2. Use of telemedicine, particularly for (suspected) fractures management/review - Peterhead
3. GP endoscopy/cardiology/ultrasonography -Peterhead
4. Opening of new Community Hospitals - nationwide
5. Opening of new Community Hospitals (eg Links in Aberdeen, Leith in Edinburgh) - nationwide
6. Use of Community Hospital as out-of-hours hubs/PCECS - nationwide
7. NHS QIS Draft Standards (2003) - nationwide
8. Positive Scottish Government Strategy 2006 - nationwide.
