Providing Scotland with the Highest Quality of Care
2nd May 2008
NHS Scotland is the first health service in the world to adopt a national approach to improving patient safety - the Scottish Patient Safety Programme. Through the Scottish Patient Safety Programme, the implementation of evidence-based interventions will become routine, significantly improving patient safety across Scotland.
The Scottish Patient Safety Programme is now underway and is currently being implemented across all NHS case settings and will be phased in to involve Community Hospitals and Primary Care services.
The Scottish Patient Safety Steering Group's remit is to 'oversee, advise and inform the NHS QIS Executive Team and the NHS QIS Board in their work on leading the coordination of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme.' The Steering Group does this by advising on implementation of the Programme, including agreeing consistent methodology for each NHS Board; monitoring implementation of the Programme; and providing advice and information on the way forward.
The SACH is represented on the Steering Group, which meets every two months. "It is in the interests of all members of the SACH to keep abreast of this important programme," said Frances Smith, Director of the SACH and member of the Steering Group. "Through the website, our newsletters and various events, the SACH will endeavour to keep members informed of progress... Watch this space!"
