Releasing Time to Care
3rd October 2008

The SACH Symposium's workshops are well-known for being worthwhile and informative. One of this year's many eagerly-awaited workshops will be held by Erica Reid of the Institute of Innovation and Improvement in Scotland. Erica's workshop will take a close look at the 'Productive Ward', which focuses on improving ward processes and environments in order to help nurses and therapists spend more time on patient care, thereby improving safety and efficiency.

'Releasing Time to Care -The Productive Ward' was developed by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement Scotland and the programme has been piloted in eight NHS Boards. "This workshop is an opportunity to find out how frontline staff are implementing the Productive Ward," said Frances Smith, Director of the SACH.

In addition, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement has been working with nurses and therapists in England to develop ways to increase the amount of direct care time given to patients in English Community Hospitals. The Productive Community Hospital programme is designed to help achieve this by improving the effectiveness, safety and reliability of inpatient units, day hospitals and minor injury units. "This is your chance to explore the implications of the Productive Ward and Productive Community Hospitals for Community Hospitals in Scotland," stressed Frances.

Erica's workshop, 'The Productive Ward', will be held on the first day of the SACH Symposium - Friday, October 31. To download a copy of the programme, click below.
